Abstract
Primary care in Austria changed profoundly in the last years. Facing the shortage of doctors in rural regions, new primary care units are established in order to strengthen primary care and to facilitate cooperation of health professions. At the same time, Austrian health targets prioritize social support and health related equality of opportunities. In this regard, psychosocial care is of particular importance. Based on an empirical study in two Styrian regions in Austria, the article discusses whether medical and psychosocial care meet the population needs and challenges of interprofessional cooperation. In this context, we also address new challenges of cooperation between community nurses and social work, link work and social prescribing.
