Transformative Justice

Abstract

The paper shows how transformative justice and community accountability approaches offer new perspectives for the protection against violence and social work. The starting point for this is the delineation of the contradictions in the current approach to violence prevention. This is followed by the presentation of the concept of transformative justice as an alternative. The concept has enormous potential to combat violence in communities in a moderating and supportive way. It is not the punitive state, but rather small, caring communities that become the space for transformation and intervention. The paper describes concepts that have emerged in activist practice and shows possible connections for renewing and expanding the existing protection against violence in Austria. The paper thus aims to contribute to a non-violent and democratic world by formulating a plea for abolitionist feminist protection against violence.
