Abstract
Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird versucht, die Relevanz kulturtheoretischer Überlegungen für die praktische Arbeit in der Fremdunterbringung von Jugendlichen darzustellen. Kulturtheoretische Aspekte werden in direkten Zusammenhang mit praktischen Beispielen aus der Betreuungsarbeit von SOS-Kinderdorf in Österreich gestellt, um damit eine Grundlage für eine praxisnahe Diskussion für in der sozialpädagogischen Arbeit Tätige zu bieten. Ausgehend vom „Zwiebelschalenmodell“ soll ein allgemeines Verständnis für die Funktion von Kultur geschaffen werden. In der Folge wird die kulturelle Dimension von „Individualismus versus Kollektivismus“ näher betrachtet, da diese Beziehung am meisten beeinflusst und für das Thema des Artikels relevant erscheint. Ziel dieses Beitrages ist nicht zuletzt, auf die eigenen kulturellen Perspektiven zu verweisen und Diskussionsgrundlagen anzubieten, die in die Arbeit mit Kindern und Jugendlichen und in Konzeptentwicklungen einfließen sollen.

In this article we determine the practical implications and relevance of culture theory in the field of “out-of-home care for young people”. We link aspects of culture theory and practical case studies taken from SOS-Kinderdorf Austria to set the ground for a practically orientated discussion among practitioners of the field. We build a general understanding of functions of culture based on the onion model. Further on we discuss the cultural dimension of “individualism versus collectivism as the aspect most relevant to relationship and culture, the topic of this article. The aim of this article is to increase the awareness of one’s own cultural perspectives and to enable people to use these considerations in the daily work with youngsters and children as well as in the development of a conceptual and pedagogical framework.
