Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all schools throughout Austria were closed in mid-March 2020. A challenging time followed – not only for the students but also for their parents, teachers, and school social workers. In the article, experiences from ISOP school social work during the pandemic-related measures and especially the school closures will be presented. School social work was able to adapt its modus operandi and accompany the young people during the school closures and help students process their experiences.

The first two chapters deal with school social work and the pandemic; the third chapter provides insight into the realities of life of students from socially and financially disadvantaged families. Thereafter, reactions regarding the lockdown experiences and challenges will be discussed to conclude with insights into how school social work adapted its practices to the special circumstances and requirements.
